So you might be all for your usual lemon and sugar or Nutella classics, who isn’t? But if you’re trying to keep things a little healthy as that summer holiday approaches, you might want to keep your pancakes as guilt-free as possible – without sacrificing the deliciousness of those fluffy beauties. Ditch the processed sugars                                                    Sorry hazelnut spread of dreams, you’re out. That goes for ice-cream, syrup and cream too, before you ask. Instead, replace those naughty sugars with Mother Nature’s candy – fruit. Before you turn your nose up, berries and/or banana with a little Greek yoghurt as a pancake topping are pretty incredible, so you won’t feel cheated this Shrove Tuesday. If you do feel you need a little something extra, a drizzle of honey or a teaspoon of organic peanut butter would be a yummy option. Check the ingredients You don’t need a ton of sugar, flour and milk to make good pancakes. Try searching for protein pancake or banana pancake recipes, both of which allow you to have your annual pancakes, but with considerably fewer calories. Huge, spongy American-style pancakes are out of this world, we know, but maybe save those for a special day such as your Birthday, which is a day where we all know calories don’t matter… right? Portion control Do you really need ten pancakes? Probably not. Limit your pancake portions and you’ll find that actually, you don’t need ten to feel satisfied. Two or three are more than enough for the average person, particularly if you’re piling on the toppings, so perhaps fill up on a protein-packed dinner beforehand to curb those pesky hunger cravings. Pancakes don’t need to be earned, in fact no food does, but if you want to feel a little less of the post-pancake bloat (depending on how well you follow these top three tips!), a little pre-pancake workout is a totally optional, but great way to set yourself for a happy stomach this Pancake Day. Happy flipping!
