So admittedly we still have the New Year celebrations to come, but no doubt by this point you’re feeling a little bloated, lethargic and full to the brim of every form of food and drink imaginable. Believe it or not, that’s actually ok. It’s a good idea to “let your hair down” once in a while, in moderation of course, and studies have actually shown that taking a break from going to the gym gives your body a chance to recover properly. Not only that, but enjoying a few treats actually allows you to satisfy your cravings, whilst letting your stomach learn to miss the good food. All in all, a break from the strict, healthy routine is good. So long as you remember to make those naughty treats temporary of course... So, how can you get back on track once the festivities are over and done with? Drink Water It sounds simple enough, but water is going to be your best friend. Not only does it feed your body and make your skin glow, but it also acts as a cleanser in the way that it flushes out all of that unwanted waste and bacteria. Re-Introduce Healthy Foods Going from constant chocolate, roast potatoes and pigs-in-blankets to all you can eat fruit and veg may be a bit of a shock for your stomach. Instead, incorporate reasonable portions of fruit and vegetables into your daily food intake, and begin to make each meal healthier. For example, pairing some of the leftover meat with vegetables instead of starchy carbs is a great option. Get Back to Exercising Whether it’s a brisk walk in the cold weather with the family, a quick but effective home workout or a full-blown gym session - any form of exercise is a good idea at this point. It’s important not to lose that motivation and progress made so far, so pick up those weights and get that heart rate going at every opportunity. Find New Homes for Excess Food And no, this does not mean throw it in the bin. Use up what you’ve opened by making it into a nutritious meal, and either give the unopened, unwanted goodies to family, friends or even as a donation for those who are without food and drink during this festive season. It's key to remember that just because it’s there, doesn’t mean it has to be eaten! With these tips, you’ll be back to your healthy, fit self in no time at all. The team at Fitness Superstore wish you a very Happy New Year, and a wonderful 2016!
