4-Ways-to-Reduce-Your-Sugar-Intake Sugary treats are what we all crave, whether we like to admit it or not, but overcoming that lust for something sweet isn’t an easy job. While studies suggest that you avoid cutting it completely, simply limiting your daily supply is enough to significantly aid your health. So, what can you do to tackle this head on? FILL UP ON THE GOOD STUFF Chuck a load of water, vegetables and proteins into your daily diet and you’ll find you’re too full to even care about those sugar cravings. If you are heading to the vending machine for a chocolate bar by 10am, perhaps it’s time you swapped the Coco Pops for a hearty bowl of porridge or a high protein breakfast muffin (and no, we don’t mean the McMuffin kind!). INDULGE FROM TIME TO TIME Waking up and saying “nope, that’s it, I’m done with sugar” is simply not going to last. Instead, allow yourself a treat once or twice a week to remind yourself that actually – sugar in small quantities is ok. Just remember that it’s a one off treat, not an ongoing one! If you want a treat that badly, earn it. VIEW SUGAR DIFFERENTLY Instead of seeing it as “oh, I can’t have this”, see it as “I can, but I’d rather fuel my body with better foods”. By looking at something in a way that screams ‘avoid’, you’ll only want it more! KNOW THAT YOUR BODY DOESN’T ‘NEED’ IT Do you think that back in the day that humans used to stand there having a good old cry because they ‘needed’ a cupcake? No, because they didn’t, and believe it or not we don’t either. You may have been born into a generation where sugar is everywhere, but remember that your body doesn’t need a ton of it to survive. It copes just fine with healthy, nutritious foods, which contain the right amount of sugar (if any), so why allow your hunger to tell you otherwise?
