We’re all familiar with the excuses made in a desperate attempt to avoid a workout, and let's be honest, we're all a victim of it ourselves from time to time. For those who lead busy lives, the lack of commitment and enthusiasm for exercise more often than not comes down to a lack of time, money, or simply energy. So sometimes, opting out of the healthy choice is simply convenient, however deep down you know that this isn't going to get you into those new jeans or ready for the upcoming sporting event you reluctantly singed up to. So how can you go about exercising two or three times a week, without cutting into your work commitments and family time? Set your alarm a little earlier Some may find this easier than others, but by getting up even thirty minutes earlier, you can use that extra time to burn some serious calories be it in the form of lifting weights, working up a sweat on the elliptical or hopping on a bike for a high-powered spin class. More often than not morning workouts are the most effective, as you’re fully rested from the night before and your muscles are at their most vulnerable. And the best bit? You can head home to your television and pjs after work, totally guilt free… Utilise your lunch break Whether you pop to the gym for thirty minutes or head outside for a walk or jog, utilise your lunch break in a way that benefits your health. As comforting as it may be to sit there having a staring competition with the vending machine or catching up on the latest celebrity gossip online, you’ll feel far better for fitting in a quick workout. This also benefits your production levels for the afternoon, as your endorphins will rise, your energy will spike and your mind will feel completely refreshed. Involve your family If you’re a busy mother or father who has to juggle looking after your children after work, get them involved! Now we’re not suggesting you bring them along to the gym, but instead you could take them swimming, go for a family walk or even partake in an evening cycle – all of which are excellent, healthy activities which are ideal for those light, summer evenings. Late evening gym visits are your friend You may feel tired from your hectic day at work, but winding down at the gym is the ideal way to de-stress. You might be thinking that this simply isn't possible, but believe it or not, it is. A fast paced workout is perfect for releasing tight muscles, whilst it enables you to emit any unwanted anger in the form of lifting heavy weights or hitting a new personal best on the treadmill. After, you can relax in a hot shower or perhaps even take advantage of your gym’s spa, before heading home and drifting off to sleep ready for the following day. It might not feel like it, but the average working day offers plenty of opportunity to work up a sweat and progress towards that summer body. Once you get into the routine, you’ll wonder why you’ve only just started!
