When a piece of fitness equipment gets everyone talking, we love to get in on the action. Currently taking the CrossFit world by storm – it was the official bike used at the 2017 CrossFit Games – the Schwinn Airdyne AD8 Dual Action Air Cycle is a fantastic training platform, particularly great as part of any CrossFit, Circuit or HIIT style programme. WHAT IS THE AIRDYNE AD8?
The Airdyne AD8 Dual Action Air Cycle is not your average exercise bike. Instead of a flywheel and magnetic or friction braking, it uses a large fan for resistance, taking your entire body on an intense workout. Not only are your legs moving, but the moving handlebars get your upper body, including your core, involved too. The more effort you give, the more resistance it delivers, which is why this bike has been chosen as the official bike at the CrossFit Games – it’s simply perfect for high intensity intervals that challenge your entire body.

Thanks to the long-arm, moving handlebars, you have to push and pull while you work out, which exercises your upper body and core. Coupled with your legs powering through too, your whole body gets a fantastic workout challenge. Plus, it’s low impact, making it great for your joints.

A regular exercise bike is great for burning calories. It’s not as great at burning them as the Airdyne though. Again, that’s thanks to the concept of using both your arms and legs in unison. You burn far more calories as you’re getting more muscle groups in on the action.

As mentioned above, the harder you push and pull, the greater the intensity.
